'Denies Floor Time': Opposition Plans No-Confidence Motion Against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla
New Delhi: During Monday’s Budget Session discussion on the 2026-27 Union Budget, opposition members from the INDIA bloc pushed for a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Birla.
The leaders alleged that the speaker has denied floor time to opposition members including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi while favoring the ruling BJP.
The group, including Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi Gandhi, gathered to plan the non-confidence motion against Om Birla. However, there have been no formal notice with 50 MPs’ signatures tabled yet.
The ruling NDA and its allies have dismissed the allegations as a stalling tactic amid ongoing protests over the recent India-US trade deal, which the opposition as well as several critics call a compromise on India’s interests without parliamentary review.
