Saif Ali Khan Attacked: Opposition Slams Maharashtra Government

Mumbai, Maharashtra: The Opposition expressed concern over the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and questioned the law and order situation in Maharashtra. Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his Mumbai residence during an attempted burglary and is currently admitted to Lilavati Hospital. He underwent surgery and is currently recovering.

The opposition parties, NCP (SP), Shiv Sena (UBT), and Congress raised the incident as political controversy, given that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis handles the home portfolio.

NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar said, “The CM also handles the home portfolio. Such incidents should be taken seriously,” Indian express reports.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut stated that “law and order” situation Maharashtra has gone for “a toss”. “No one is safe in the state. For the common man, there is no security. Ninety per cent of the police force is now with the politicians,” Indian Express quotes as Raut is saying.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray termed the incident as “shocking” and added that the incident only highlights” the absolute shambles law & order is in Maharashtra.”

“Over the past 3 years, hit and run cases, actors and politicians being threatened and cases like those in Beed and Parbhani only show that the Government has been an absolute failure in curbing crime and maintaining law and order,” Thackeray said in post on X.

Speaking to PTI, Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe said the law and order situation has diminished in the state, and the recent violent incidents in the State – Beed Sarpanch murder case – showed that the administration is working for anti-social elements.

“If such big people are not safe, what about common people? Even the hometown of Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has witnessed many murders and rapes in last ten days,” Londhe said.

Adding further Londhe said that these incidents clearly reflects that Fadnavis has completely failed in maintaining law and order in Maharashtra.

Expressing concern, NCP (SP) Supriya Sule referred the incident as “worrisome”.
