Journalist Killed In Prayagraj; 4th Attack In A Row, Sparks 'Jungle Raj' Debate In UP

On October 23, Journalist Laxmi Narayan Singh was stabbed to death after being attacked 20-25 times with a sharp knife, in the daylight, in Prayagraj, UP. The journalist was later rushed to the hospital by a police team, where he died during the medical procedure. UP Police have arrested two accused, Vishal and Sahil, for attacking and murdering Singh.

Notably, in January, Journalist Shubham Shukla was killed in Unnao, in March, Ragvendra Vajpayee was murdered, and later in June, Shubham Mani Tripathi was killed in Lucknow. The fourth consecutive killing and attacks on journalists in the state have sparked the debate on law and order under CM Yogi Adityanath.

Singh was the resident of Shakuntala Kunj Colony, Prayagraj. The incident happened in the civil lines area of Prayagraj, and the goons targeted L N Singh. Attackers bought the knife from the Kuldhabad fish market with the intention of killing Singh. The SP Prayagraj has said that Vishal was injured with police bullets during the scuffle and attempt to run away from the spot.

The police are investigating the entire matter, and information of a dispute between Singh and his attackers has also come into the picture; however, the clarity will come out after the proper investigation, the ASP Ajay Pal Sharma said.
