14-Year-Old Son Arrested In Tamil Nadu For Murdering Mother Over Scolding

Tamil Nadu: In a shocking incident from Kallakurichi district, a 14-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly killing his mother following a dispute over his study habits. The victim, identified as 40-year-old Maheswari, was found dead in a field on October 20.

According to police reports, Maheswari had gone to a nearby field to cut grass for their cattle but did not return home. Her family raised the alarm, and a search led them to her body. Authorities confirmed that she had been murdered, prompting an immediate investigation by the Thirunavalur police.

A key breakthrough came when a shirt button belonging to the boy was discovered near the crime scene. Upon questioning, the teenager admitted to the crime, revealing that his resentment towards his mother had grown over repeated scoldings for watching television and avoiding his studies.

In his confession, the boy stated that the altercation escalated after a heated argument with his mother, during which she slapped him. Following her to the field, he allegedly pushed her down and, in a fit of rage, strangled her with her mangalsutra, resulting in her death.

The accused has been produced before the Ulundurpet Criminal Court and subsequently sent to the Cuddalore Juvenile Reformatory. Police have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
