Gopalganj, Bihar: An imam was found stabbed to death inside a mosque in Bihar on Monday morning in Arna Bazaar, Gopalganj district in north Bihar. The Imam, identified as Safiq Ahmed, did not recite the Azaan – the Muslim call to prayer – at dawn on the day the incident took place.
Worried by not hearing Azaan, the residents went to the Mosque to check the reason, only to find Ahmed dead inside the mosque. After alerting authorities, police reached to the spot and took the body for post-mortem.

The officials have launched an investigation to find out who entered the mosque in the suspected murder incident. So far, no motive has been confirmed and no arrests have been made.
Police are checking surveillance-camera footage from around the mosque. They are also questioning people living in the area. Given the sensitive nature of the crime as the victim being a Muslim religious leader inside a place of worship, authorities have deployed additional officers from several police stations in the area. The incident has sparked alarm among local Muslims.

The victim Safiq was originally from Rudalpur village elsewhere in Gopalganj district and had been staying with his in-laws in Sisai while serving as the mosque’s imam. He is survived by three sons, including one who serves in the Indian Army.
