Mangesh Yadav, who was identified as the mastermind behind the daylight robbery at Bharat Jewellers in Sultanpur was killed during an encounter with Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force.
The accused Mangesh was carrying a Rs 1 lakh reward on his head.
However, Amitabh Yash, the Additional DG of Law and Order, known for his involvement in encounter killings, faced scrutiny for his actions.

Journalist Rohini Singh shared a video of Mangesh Yadav’s sister’s statement regarding the encounter killing on X. She on her post asked how many more extra-judicial killings are needed to happen before the courts intervene. In the 1-minute 43-second-long video shared, Mangesh’s sister in tears claims that Mangesh was taken from home at 2 am and assured the family that he would be sent back after questioning, however, he did not return and the news of the encounter reached them the very next day.
When the reporter asked her why this had happened to them, the girl helplessly replied that it was due to their caste.

As per the media reports, the encounter took place near Mishirpur- Puraina village under the Dehat Kotwali area in Sultanpur.
Amita Bash has said that Mangesh Yadav was the prime suspect in the daylight robbery at Bharat Jewellers, which took place on August 28.
“The STF intercepted Mangesh and his accomplice. Mangesh was asked to surrender but he opened fire at the STF team” he said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, STF, DK Shahi said that in retaliatory fire Mangesh was shot while his accomplice managed to escape and was immediately rushed to the hospital during treatment.
The encounter killing however has created political turmoil in the state. In a post on X, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav accused the ruling party in the state of having “deep connections” with people involved in the Sultanpur robbery case.
He further added that Mangesh Yadav was killed intentionally in an encounter because of his caste while the prime accused Vipin Singh strategically surrendered in connivance with the police and the three other accused were shot in the legs in a fake encounter.
