‘Flop Show': 40% Of Ground Empty, BJP Takes Dig At INDIA Bloc’s ‘Vote Bachao’ Rally

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday dismissed the INDIA bloc’s ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan as a “flop show”, accusing the Opposition of exaggerating the crowd size through misleading photographs and camera angles.

The rally, held on November 1 under the banner of ‘Chalo Dilli’, brought together several Opposition leaders to protest against alleged electoral irregularities and demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Reacting to the gathering, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra claimed that nearly 40 per cent of Ramlila Maidan was empty despite the Congress projecting a turnout of around 10 lakh people.

He also alleged that the Opposition used “trick photography” to make the gathering appear larger than it was.

Patra questioned Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against the Election Commission and challenged him to produce a legal petition challenging the validity of the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

He also accused the Congress leader of making allegations without sufficient evidence.

The BJP also criticised the timing of the rally, held on the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Party leaders accused the Congress of choosing a sensitive date for its political demonstration. The BJP also organised countermarches and press conferences to challenge the Opposition’s campaign.

The INDIA bloc, meanwhile, accused the ruling party of electoral manipulation through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Addressing the gathering, Rahul Gandhi alleged that voter deletions had undermined the democratic process and accused the Chief Election Commissioner of acting in favour of the BJP.

Rahul Gandhi warned that Gyanesh Kumar would face legal action and imprisonment if found guilty of colluding in alleged electoral irregularities.

He also warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah that they would face legal consequences over the allegations.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also called for action against the Chief Election Commissioner, saying that protecting democracy required accountability from constitutional authorities.
