In a show of strength against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, top leaders of the opposition have gathered to hold a ‘Loktantra Bachao’ rally in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday. The chief minister’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal along with former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren’s wife, Kalpana Soren is also part of the rally.

While addressing the rally, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife shared the message of the chief minister from jail. “Our own Kejriwal has sent a message for you from jail. Before reading this message, I would like to ask you something. Our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi put my husband in jail, did the Prime Minister do the right thing? Do you believe that Kejriwal Ji is a true patriot and honest person? Your Kejriwal is a lion,” she said.

Hemant Soren’s wife too addressing the rally said that she is representing the voice of 50 percent of India’s women’s population and 9 percent of the tribal community. “Today, this gathering on this historic ground is testifying that you all have come from every part of the country to end the dictatorship,” she added.

The Congress on Saturday made it categorically clear that Sunday’s mega rally being organized by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) in Ramlila Maidan here, is for saving the democracy and the constitution of the country and not any particular person.

In a scathing attack launched at BJP, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said the party’s “400 paar slogan is not possible without match-fixing”. He then added that the Prime minister chose “umpire” to go “400 paar”.

“Without EVMs, match-fixing, social media, and pressurising the press, they (BJP) cannot win more than 180 seats,” the Congress leader said.

Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav too slammed at BJP government by asking if they were sure of 400 seats then why is the saffron party scared of the AAP leader?

Meanwhile, the BJP lashed out at the opposition INDIA bloc’s rally saying it was not a “save democracy” as announced but a “save family” and “hide corruption” rally. Commenting on the rally, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “There is no restriction on holding a rally. But who is gathering? Those who are drenched in corruption, those who are jailed for looting public money. The ones who wore a cloak of honesty and said that they would do a new kind of politics are now speaking of running the government from jail.”
