"Stop This Obsession With Congress, Reflect On Your Own Misdeeds": Kharge’s Rebuttal To PM Modi On Kachchatheevu

In a sharp retort to Prime Minister Narendra Modi”s recent criticism of the Congress party over the Kachchatheevu issue, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a scathing attack, accusing the Prime Minister of political opportunism and deflecting attention from his own government”s failures.

PM Modi”s condemnation of the Congress for allegedly conceding the Kachchatheevu island to Sri Lanka in the 1970s sparked a swift response from Kharge, who accused Modi of conveniently awakening to issues of territorial integrity only in the twilight of his tenure, suggesting electoral motives behind his sudden fervor.

After PM Modi brought this issue on Sunday morning, BJP functionaries started resharing the X post by him to bring into sharp focus the issue of Kachhatheevu, the tiny fishing island 14 nautical miles from Rameswaram.

Kharge”s rebuttal began by pointing out PM Modi”s endorsement of the Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh in 2015, where he hailed the realignment of land as a “meeting of hearts.” Kharge highlighted how under Modi”s government, similar land transfers were facilitated as a friendly gesture towards Bangladesh, a move contradicting Modi”s current criticism of the Congress.

Drawing a parallel to the Kachchatheevu agreement, Kharge questioned Modi”s silence on any proactive steps taken by his government to reclaim the island, citing the stance of his own government”s Attorney General in 2014, who asserted that reclaiming Kachchatheevu would necessitate going to war with Sri Lanka.

Kharge then invoked the legacies of prominent Congress leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Patel, and Indira Gandhi, emphasizing their commitment to India”s unity and territorial integrity. He contrasted their leadership with what he described as Modi”s failures in maintaining friendly relations with neighboring countries and mishandling sensitive foreign policy matters.

Further, Kharge defended the Congress”s historical contributions to national unity, citing instances where the party stood against secessionist forces and safeguarded the integrity of the nation. He criticized Modi for allegedly neglecting the sacrifices of Congress members and accused him of perpetuating an unhealthy obsession with the Congress party.

Kharge urged Modi to introspect on his government”s actions and take responsibility for the challenges faced by India under his leadership, rather than incessantly targeting the Congress. The fiery rebuttal underscores the escalating political tensions ahead of crucial electoral battles.
