An engineering student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi died by suicide in his room, according to the police, as reported on Saturday. The incident occurred on Friday evening, the police added.
The police identified the student as Anil Kumar, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mathematics and Computing and resided in the Vindhyachal hostel at IIT Delhi. A senior police officer was quoted by the news agency PTI as saying.
Reports indicate that the student was initially supposed to vacate the hostel in June but was granted a six-month extension to complete some subjects he had not yet qualified in.
The door was shut from the inside and required forcible entry by the fire department.
During the door”s forced entry, the dean of students/CMO IIT, the chief security officer, and crime and forensic teams were all present.
As of now, there is no evidence of any wrongdoing. Inquest proceedings are currently underway, as confirmed by the police.
