Sunita Williams Delivers Lecture At IIT Delhi

NASA astronaut (ret.) Sunita L. Williams, astronaut & U.S. Navy captain (ret.), delivered a talk titled “The Making of an Astronaut: Sunita Williams’ Story” at IIT Delhi on January 20, 2026.

A large number of students, faculty, and staff members attended the talk. During a fireside chat, Sunita Williams answered some interesting questions from the IIT Delhi community. Prof. Shilpi Sharma (Associate Dean, Academic Outreach & New Initiatives) moderated the fireside chat.

This talk by Sunita Williams was the inaugural lecture under the Prof. V. N. Vazirani Institute Lecture Series at IIT Delhi, for which the Institute’s Academic Outreach and New Initiatives Office joined hands with the U.S. Embassy, New Delhi. Prof. Vijay Vazirani and Prof. Umesh Vazirani established this lecture series in loving memory of their father, Prof. V. N. Vazirani.

Notably, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration has announced the retirement of astronaut Sunita Williams on January 20, 2026.
