Monsoon Session of Parliament: Congress to corner govt on Pahalgam terrorists’ whereabouts

New Delhi, July 15: The Congress said in a statement that the party will question and corner the government during the forthcoming Monsoon Session on the whereabouts of the Pahalgam terrorists who killed 26 persons and are still untraceable, repeated claims made by US President Donald Trump about mediating ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and the electoral manipulations in Maharashtra, Haryana, and now in Bihar.

Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi presided over the CPP’s strategy meeting here today, which was attended, among others, by the Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi.

Briefing reporters after the Congress Parliamentary Party’s strategy meeting here today, Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha Pramod Tiwari said that the party decided to raise various important issues during the coming session. He said about three months have passed since the Pahalgam terror attack. But, he added, there is no trace of the terrorists and questioned where did they vanish? He said, apart from being negligent and lax in providing security to people, the government had also failed in nabbing and punishing the culprits.

The senior Congress leader also referred to repeated and frequent claims being made by US President Donald Trump that he had mediated the ceasefire between India and Pakistan when India had a dominating position in the conflict. He said there has been no response from the Government of India to Trump’s claims. He said the Congress would like to seek answers from the government.

Tiwari also disclosed that the party will raise the serious issue of electoral manipulations in elections in states like Maharashtra, Haryana, and now in Bihar. He said the election process had come under suspicion.

Tiwari added that the Congress will also raise the issue of rising crimes against women and Scheduled Castes across the country, particularly in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha. He further added that the Congress will raise the demand for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, which has remained pending despite repeated assurances from the government. The role of the Election Commission before the upcoming elections in Bihar will also raised, he stated.

Tiwari said that a meeting of the INDIA bloc partners will be held before the Monsoon Session to coordinate strategies and raise issues collectively in both Houses of Parliament.
