Not As Per Buttering The Right Side Of The Bread: PC To SR On Comments On Indian Muslims

In reply to activist and former Vice-President of JNU Students Union-turned-BJP supporter Shehla Rashid’s comment about India’s Muslim community thriving, Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “That is because it is an India as envisaged by the constitution and its foresightedness to treat every Indian as an equal, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, race, gender not as per buttering the right side of the bread.”

Once a staunch critic of Modi, Shehla Rashid praised the Modi government regime stating that a Muslim in India could win the Arjun Award, the Padma Shri award, Big Boss (reality show), and many more. “A Muslim in India can win the Arjuna award, the Padma Shri, Bigg Boss (reality show), be the top scientist at ISRO and in charge of solar and lunar explorations, be the top entertainer (movie star/musician), tennis star, and what not!” she wrote on X.

Shehla concluded by stating that this is the India of merit not mollycoddling.

Shehla Rashid was once a strong critic of the Modi-led centre and of the authoritarian government and is now ‘singing hymns about good governance’. She took a U-turn in July last year. It was in 2016, that Ms Rashid caught the attention of news headlines when she was tagged as ‘tukde tukde gang’ along with Kanhaiya Kumar, and Umar Khalid. She was active in the agitations demanding the release of many student leaders including Mr Kumar and Khalid, who were arrested on the charges of sedition.
