Penguin India Wanted Cuts To Portions On PM Modi, RSS And China In Sonia Gandhi's Memoir: Report
New Delhi: Penguin Random House India (PRHI) has refused to publish Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s upcoming memoir Belonging: A Journey of Love, sparking political controversy in India. The world’s largest publishing house decided not to publish the memoir after she refused to make changes or deletions that Penguin House India recommended.
The publishing house demanded cuts to references in connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s ideological fount, and Chinese intrusions, The Hindustan Times reported citing unknown sources. The 79-year-old Congress Rajya Sabha MP asserted that it is her story and there was no question of allowing any distortions to her telling of her life.

In an official statement on Friday, August 28, Penguin India said that is has decided not to publish Sonia Gandhi’s memoir. ‘As a publisher, it is our prerogative and responsibility to factcheck and provide authors with recommendations that are in the best interest of their books,’ the statement noted, stating that this is a normal part of publishing process.
‘Throughout the relevant discussions, Penguin Random House India’s position was that we remained willing and keen to publish the book’ the statement said, adding that it will not comment further on confidential discussions with the author.
