Porn Videos On The Mobile Phones Seized From Rape Convict Prajwal Revanna
Forensic analysis of electronic devices seized from the prison cell of former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna has revealed dozens of pornographic videos, reports said. This latest development has reopened a fierce debate surrounding the illicit privileges granted to high-profile inmates inside Indian penitentiaries.
The recovery follows a surprise search operation conducted by Crime Branch officials on August 11 at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru, where Revanna is currently serving a life sentence over rape. During the unannounced raid on his high-security barrack, officers caught the former NDA lawmaker red-handed using a personal mobile phone. Alongside the contraband handset, investigators confiscated a phone charger, a pen drive, and a notebook.
Subsequent forensic examination of the confiscated items has now confirmed that dozens of pornographic video files were stored directly on the mobile handset. Investigators also discovered numerous web series episodes saved onto the seized pen drive, exposing an uninhibited access to digital entertainment despite strict prison regulations prohibiting such devices.

The fallout from the contraband discovery was immediate. Senior prison authorities launched an internal inquiry and initiated disciplinary action against staff members responsible for cell block oversight. Assistant Superintendent Eeranna Rangapur was placed under suspension for gross dereliction of duty, whilst Prison Superintendent Ansuch Kumar was served a formal show-cause notice demanding an explanation for the severe security lapses. The Crime Branch has registered a fresh case to determine the precise smuggling route and identify the personnel who facilitated the phone’s entry into the facility, reported NDTV.
Revanna, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, was convicted last year on charges of rape, criminal intimidation, and the illegal distribution of sexual assault media. The case stems from complaints filed by a 48-year-old domestic worker employed at the Revanna family’s ancestral farmhouse in Holenarasipura, Hassan district.

The victim detailed a horrific pattern of repeated sexual violence dating back to 2021. She revealed that Revanna systematically filmed the assaults on his phone, using the explicit footage to blackmail and silence her. Shortly after hundreds of video clips depicting sexual abuse flooded public platforms, Revanna fled the country for Germany. He was subsequently suspended by the JD(S), a constituent of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA in the national politics and government, lost his seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha general election, and was taken into custody by law enforcement upon his eventual return to India.
Under standard penal protocol, personal mobile handsets, SIM cards, and independent electronic communication devices are strictly forbidden across all correctional facilities. Authorized contact with the outside world is limited exclusively to closely monitored institutional landlines, public call offices, or official video-calling channels.

However, the latest security breach has drawn sharp criticism from legal experts and human rights advocates, who contend that influential inmates routinely circumvent standard regulations. Parappana Agrahara Central Prison has previously faced public outrage over allegations of preferential treatment for wealthy or politically connected prisoners.
The incident closely echoes a major 2024 scandal at the same institution involving Kannada actor Darshan, who was remanded in judicial custody over his alleged involvement in the murder of a fan. Photographs showing Darshan lounging on the prison lawns while smoking a cigarette alongside fellow inmates went viral, followed by video evidence showing him making unauthorized mobile phone calls. That breach prompted the mass suspension of prison personnel and resulted in the actor’s immediate transfer to Ballari Central Prison.
