He was believed to have taken control of several extortion rackets and illegal businesses after launching a cabaret bar on Bengaluru’s bustling Brigade Road, which reportedly became a front for criminal operations.

Though he later claimed to have left behind his criminal past and even dabbled in philanthropy and real estate, Muthappa Rai remained a controversial figure until his death.

His alleged connections with both local and international mafia networks made him a target of several criminal investigations over the years.
