Moscow, Russia: For the first time since the war in Ukraine started in 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India soon. On Thursday, Moscow confirmed that the Russian leader is planning to visit India following an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Russia.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that preparations were underway for Putin’s visit to India. However, he did not provide any specific date for the visit, adding, “President Vladimir Putin has accepted an invitation to visit from the Indian head of government.”

During Putin’s visit to India, the two leaders might be discussing the Ukraine war and other burning geopolitical issues. India consistently took a balanced stance in the Russia-Ukraine war. Prime Minister Modi had visited both Ukraine and Russia during the war period, highlighting the need to end the conflict.

The Prime Minister also conducted discussions with the Russian president and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, India has kept abstaining from resolutions passed against Russia by the United Nations.

Notably, while announcing the Russian leader’s visit to India, Mr Lavrov noted that Prime Minister Modi had made his first foreign visit to Russia after being re-elected for his third consecutive term. “Now it is our turn.” He stated. During Modi’s Russia visit, there were several bonhomie moments doing rounds on social media, with netizens hailing the decades long warm relationship between the two countries.
