Tamil Nadu LoP Udhayanidhi Stalin Arrested For 'Offensive Remark' Against Actor Trisha Krishnan

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu police have arrested Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Udhayanidhi Stalin, for his controversial remark allegedly against actor Trisha.

The ruling TVK had filed a police complaint at the Thanjavur East Police Station against the DMK leader for his alleged offensive remarks during his address at a protest gathering over the Cauvery dispute. During the event,  Udhayanidhi made the controversial remarks against Chief Minister Vijay after the crowd chanted actor Trisha’s name, drawing widespread criticism over the purportedly derogatory comments.

After Greater Chennai Police (GCP) Commissioner A Amalraj arrived, at the residence of the DMK leader. There were  protesters raising slogans against the police and the government who were later dispersed. Udhayanidhi was then briefed on the case and taken from his residence in a police vehicle for questioning.

Soon after the detention, the DMK moved the Madras High Court seeking his protection.

TVK has also filed a complaint submitting a petition to the National Commission for Women (NCW). In its complaint, the party alleged that Udhayanidhi made defamatory, objectifying and sexually suggestive remarks against Chief Minister Vijay and a woman actor.
