40% Of Kerala’s Proposed Rs 60,000 Crore High-Speed Rail Project To Be Crowdfunded
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: The Kerala High-Speed Railway (KHSR) project between Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur, is estimated to cost Rs 60,000 crore. While the project is to be jointly funded by the Centre and the state, around 40%, Rs 24,000 crore, will be mobilised through crowdfunding.
The project report was submitted by metro man E Shreedharan to state chief minister V D Satheesan. The project envisages a 473-km high-speed rail corridor that reduces the travel time between the two districts to three-and-a-half hours.

Notably, the UDF government’s proposal is projected to cost less than half the scrapped SilverLine proposed by the previous left government, which a NITI Aayog assessment had estimated could end up placing a burden of around Rs 1.26 lakh crore on Kerala.
