Kerala Local Body Election 2025 Phase 2 Voting: Polling Underway In 7 Districts
Phase 2 of the Kerala Local Body Election 2025 is underway today across seven districts in North Kerala.
Voting began in the morning and will continue till 6 pm. Polling is taking place in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.
A total of 12,391 wards in 604 local bodies, including the corporations of Kozhikode, Kannur and Thrissur, are going to the polls. In Kannur, 14 wards and in Kasaragod, two wards already have elected representatives because the candidates in these segments won unopposed.

Around 1.53 crore people are eligible to vote in this phase. This includes 80.90 lakh women, 72.46 lakh men, 161 transgender voters and 3,293 overseas voters. The State Election Commission has made all arrangements for smooth and peaceful polling in all districts.
A total of 38,994 candidates are contesting in Phase 2. Of these, 28,274 are contesting for grama panchayats, 3,742 for block panchayats, 681 for district panchayats, 5,546 for municipalities and 751 for the three corporations.

The SEC has set up 18,274 polling stations across the seven districts. Out of these, 2,055 booths have been marked as sensitive, with Kannur having the highest number at 1,025. These booths will have live webcasting and videography to ensure transparency and safety.
Polling in one ward, Payimbadam of Moothedam panchayat in Malappuram, has been postponed due to the death of UDF candidate Vattath Haseena.
Counting of votes for Phase 2 will be held on December 13 from 8 am onwards. Phase 1 of the elections was completed on Tuesday in Kerala’s southern districts.
