The Aam Admi Party (AAP) fielded Kuldeep Kumar, a prominent face of the party belonging to the Scheduled Caste community (SC), from East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The party had announced four candidates from Delhi and one from Haryana earlier.
Kumar is AAP’s MLA from Delhi’s Kondli seat. During the 2020 Delhi Assembly election, he defeated Raj Kumar of BJP over a margin of 18,000 votes.
Talking about the decision to field Kumar, AAP leader Aravind Kejriwal said the party is only trying to fulfil Baba Sahib’s dream. He said, “no party gives tickets to SC community from general seats. Only “AAP” is fulfilling Baba Sahib’s dream”.
Responding to receiving candidacy for the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Kumar thanked the party for giving respect to the Dalit backward society and “trusting a commoner like me”. He assures the party that he will work hard for all the brave workers of East Delhi. Kuldeep Kumar belongs to the SC community, and comes from a very poor family.
Kumar joined AAP at the very early stages of the party. He came in contact with the party supremo Arvind Kejriwal during the India Against Corruption movement led by social activist Anna Hazare. He worked as a volunteer during the early days.
In 2017, Kumar was fielded by the party in the municipal election of Delhi from Kalyanpuri ward in East Delhi. The politician was elected as the youngest corporator in the MCD at the age of 27. He was also appointed as Leader of the Opposition of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation and vice president of AAP”s Delhi Unit.
