Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal Leads AAP To Victory In Hoshiarpur with Narrow Margin

In the Lok Sabha Election 2024, Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged victorious in the Hoshiarpur constituency, securing 303,859 votes. He won by a margin of 44,111 votes, narrowly defeating Yamini Gomar of the Indian National Congress (INC). Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal, a veteran politician and current member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly Chabbewal has a history with the INC, having joined in 2009 and served in various capacities before switching to AAP.

Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency, one of the 13 parliamentary constituencies in Punjab, includes parts of Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur district, and Kapurthala district. This constituency was reserved for the SC category, it consists of nine assembly seats: Sri Hargobindpur (SC), Bholath, Phagwara (SC), Mukerian, Dasuya, Urmar, Sham Chaurasi (SC), Hoshiarpur, and Chabbewal (SC). The constituency has a literacy rate of 73.21%.

In the 2019 General Election, BJP candidate Som Parkash won with a margin of 48,530 votes, securing 4,21,320 votes. He defeated Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal of the INC, who received 3,72,790 votes. Voter turnout was 61.69% in 2019.
