As in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, the ruling DMK will finalise a seat-sharing deal with INFIA alliance partners including Congress and Kamal Haasan”s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), today, sources confirmed to NDTV.
According to sources, the Congress is set to receive ten seats in the alliance. Congress had contested 9 seats in 2019 elections and won 8 seats. An official announcement is anticipated following a crucial meeting between the Congress and the DMK later today. A senior Congress leader revealed to NDTV, “Our team will meet the Chief Minister at 6 pm. We are getting a total of ten seats.”
Meanwhile, NDTV reported that Kamal Haasan”s MNM has been granted one seat for the upcoming 2025 Rajya Sabha polls. Haasan emphasized his commitment to the alliance, stating, “I have joined the DMK-led alliance for the sake of the country, and not for any post. I extend my full support to the alliance.”
MNM”s role in the alliance extends beyond representation, as the party pledges to campaign vigorously for the coalition across the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and the lone Puducherry segment.
According the formula being worked out, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and CPIM have been allotted two seats each, while one seat each has been allocated to the Indian Union Muslim League and the Kongu Desa Makkal Katchi. Additionally, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi has secured two seats in the arrangement.
During the last elections, these alliance partners had contested same number of seats.
Before Tamil Nadu, Congress has already sealed deals in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.
