In January, the TVK registration process began after a meeting in Chennai. Later, a group of senior TVK leaders which is led by General Secretary N Anand, approached the ECI. The party published legal notices in May inviting stakeholders to express objections, if any, to the party’s registration. Later in the last local body polls of 2021, members of Vijay’s fan club, AITVMI, won 115 seats out of the 169 seats.
On August 22, The party’s flag was unveiled featuring a unique design with red on top and bottom, yellow in the middle, a sarissa flower surrounded by 28 stars at the centre, and two trumpeting tuskers facing each other on either side. This design is considered reminiscent of ancient Tamil kings who wore Vagai flower garlands to symbolize victory.
The GOAT-star unfurled the flag alongside the party anthem, and the event is seen as TVK’s first major step towards entering political activities in the southern state, which has already seen many matinee idols enter active politics in the past. After releasing the flag, the actor hoisted it at the party headquarters at Panaiyur.
