Actor-Politician Vijay Releases TVK’s Flag

Actor-politician Vijay today introduced his party’s (TVK) flag in Chennai at a function attended by hundreds of party workers. The GOAT-star unfurled the flag alongside the party anthem, and the event is seen as TVK’s first major step towards entering political activities in the southern state, which has already seen many matinee idols enter active politics in the past. After releasing the flag, the actor hoisted it at the party headquarters at Panaiyur.

The huge fan following of Thalapathy Vijay is expected to create a defining impact on the Tamil political landscape, which has already seen film actors venturing into politics and occupying significant roles. Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran or MGR, Kamal Hassan, Shivaji Ganesh, Vijayakant, Sarat Kumar, Dr J Jayalalithaa and Udhayanidhi Stalin are a few names among them.

Some of the actors formed their own political party and even raised to the rank of chief minister of the state. With TVK’s launch by The Goat actor, analysts are clueless about the impact that the actor with over ten lakh members in his fans club “Vijay Makkal Iyyakam” would create.

It was in February this year that the Leo actor announced the launch of his political party. Vijay had earlier suggested that he would quit films to enter politics, and it is reported that Vijay’s 69 directed by H Vinoth will be his last movie.

With the slogan ‘all are equal,’ the TVK’s entry was hailed as a party against corruption and divisiveness, focusing on propagating Tamil Nadu-centric ideologies. The party is all set to make its debut contest in the 2026 Assembly elections. He has not declared support to any political parties during the recent Lok Sabha elections, but he had strongly criticized the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment (CAA) introduced by the Union government in 2019.
