Mahua Moitra Slams CBI For Being ‘Silent’ In Adani Bribery Case

Responding to the Adani bribery case, Trinamool Congress (TMC) Mahua Moitra came hard on the regulatory and investigative agencies in India for being silent for the past year after the FBI had handed the industrialist with the search warrant.

The US court had issued an arrest warrant against Gautam Adani, the chairman of Adani Group, and his nephew Sagar Adani on Thursday. The court had cited charges of bribery worth $265 million.

TMC leader slammed SEBI and other Indian investigative agencies for hiding it from the Indian market. “Madhavi Puri Buch was complicit and they have lied, and committed perjury to the Supreme Court of India,” Mahua said in the short video she had post on her X account.

Mahua posted the video, captioned, “India has outsourced integrity of regulatory & investigative agencies to foreign country. FBI acted in March 2023 but CBI silent till now. SEBI & Madhabi Adani Buch lied to Supreme Court on affidavit. Markets tanking, investors losing, Modi silent”.

Briefing on what an FCPA is, TMC MP said that it is an act that allows the US authorities to take action if any bribe has been reported in parts of the world. This law makes the person involved in the case to be liable to the US.

Calling it a huge FCPA violation that involves an amount of Rs 2,029 crores, she stated that the Indian government officials were bribed in the name of the solar scheme.

Mahua Moitra referred to it as a ‘complete shame’ for CBI being silent despite the FBI having issued the warrant in 2023. “Indian stock markets are thanking today because we have all been made a monkey of by the Adani group and the corrupt cronies of Modi and the BJP government,” Mahua concluded.
