The Indian Middle East Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), a transportation and communication initiative, was signed in 2023 at the G20 Summit. It is argued to counter China’s Belt and Road initiative, connecting Asia to Europe via Saudi Arabia and Israel.

In a chilling terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, 26 people were killed and several others injured when militants opened fire indiscriminately at tourists in Baisaran Valley on Tuesday. Witnesses reported seeing armed men emerging from the woods and shooting at random, turning the popular tourist site into a scene of chaos and horror.
The proposed IMEC communication line was seen as normalizing Arab-Israel relations in West Asia. The inclusion of Saudi Arabia, which has opposed any cooperation with Israel till the Arab peace summit demands were not accepted, has given rise to the emergence of a new possibility of tranquility and stability in the world’s politically most turbulent region.
However, later, the Hamas October 7 attack on Israel derailed the IMEC talks, and the revival of any negotiation seemed distant. Now, the mention of Saudi Arabia, Israel, India, and Europe has given rise to the possibility of the revival of IMEC transport and communication channels.
