Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan congratulated three-time Olympian Vinesh Phogat over a video call for her stupendous performance at the Paris 2024.
The ace Indian wrestler made history at the Paris Games by becoming the first from the contingent to reach the final. However, she was disqualified ahead of the Women’s 50kg freestyle final for not meeting the weight category.
“Good touch from Aamir Khan. Over a video call, he congratulated Vinesh Phogat for her stupendous fight in Paris. Reminded her that her three fights were proof of her champion mentality. Former wrestler Kripa Shankar (also in the pic), who was mentor for the actors of Dangal,” a fan page on Instagram said.
For the unversed, the two-time World Championships bronze medallist was disqualified ahead of the final, for failing to meet her weight by a little over 100 gms.
The premier Indian wrestler and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had appealed to the CAS for a joint silver medal alongside Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman in the 50kg weight category.
On her arrival to India, the wrestler was welcomed by Rio 2016 bronze medallist Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), New Delhi before setting on a roadshow to her hometown. She was also conferred with an honorary gold medal by the Sarvkhap Panchayat.
