The Indian wrestler was disqualified from the Women’s Freestyle 50kg gold medal match after she failed to meet the weigh in by a little over 100 grams. The premier Indian wrestler and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had appealed to the CAS for a joint silver medal alongside Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman.

During the three-hour long hearing at CAS, Vidushpat Singhania and Harish Salve represented the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) at the hearing. “All parties were given a chance to put forth their views,” Singhania said, adding “The argument was led by senior advocate Harish Salve.”

In a statement released before the hearing, the CAS stated that the applicant (Phogat) had sought an annulment of the United World Wrestling’s (UWW) decision to replace her. Phogat has confirmed that she seeks the annulment of the UWW’s decision and that she has requested to be awarded a (shared) silver medal, it stated.
