India’s Women’s And Men’s 4x400m Relay Teams Qualify For Paris Olympics 2024

India men’s and women’s 4×400 relay teams secured their spots for the Paris Olympics after exhibiting some stupendous performance at the World Athletics Relays on Monday. 

The men’s team including Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Muhammed Ajmal, Arokia Rajiv, and Amoj Jacob, also finished second in their heat with a collective timing of 3 minutes and 3.23 seconds, trailing the USA. 

In the women’s 4×400 relay competition, the quartet of Rupal Chaudhary, MR Poovamma, Jyothika Sri Dandi and Subha Venkatesan clocked in 3 minutes and 29.35 seconds to finish behind Jamaica with the top-two finishers qualifying the Olympics.

These two timings add to India’s track and field athletes heading to Paris, which now stands at 19, including Neeraj Chopra. 

The performances came after a mixed outing on Saturday during the Olympic Qualifying Round 1. When there were high expectations on the Indian teams after their impressive showing at the Budapest Worlds Championship, Rajesh who was able to make an impressive show at the Budapest but later got pulled up with an injury in the second leg of the men’s race, resulting in no timing being registered.

Previously, the women’s team had finished fifth in the first-round qualifying heat on Sunday. They finished within 3 minutes and 29.74 seconds. Meanwhile, the men’s team was unable to finish their first round-qualifying heat due to second-leg runner Rajesh Ramesh pulling out midway due to cramps. 

The athletics events at the Paris Olympics are set to commence on August 1.
