Ronaldo Steps Into Cinema: Launches UR-MARV With X-Men Director

Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has made his next big step, widening his reach to yet another horizon. Under the banner UR-Marv, the Al-Nassr player has launched a new film studio in partnership with director Matthew Vaughn. Ronaldo announced the news on X on Thursday, revealing that the duo has already bankrolled two action films and is currently working on a third movie.

A statement shared on Ronaldo’s X account read, “Cristiano loves movies; Matthew Vaughn loves sport – and they both love a good story. Both have been disruptive champions at their game and will now combine the world of sport and storytelling through the launch of UR-MARV, an independent joint venture film studio embracing innovative technology, with a nod to tradition.”

The partnership has already yielded tangible results, with two completed action films, and a third one is in the development stage. The details of the first will be unveiled immediately.

“Cristiano has created stories on the pitch that I could never have written, and I look forward to creating inspiring movies with him – he’s a real-life superhero,” Vaughn said.

As the legendary frontman begins to come closer to his career’s end, he seems to be building a vast business empire away from football. It is to be highlighted that the Portuguese star had already dipped his toe into video production by launching his own YouTube channel, which became the fastest channel to hit one million subscribers.

Vaughn, the British filmmaker, known for his stylish and kinetic storytelling, has carved a distinctive niche in the action genre. His directorial ensemble boasts titles including X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass, and Layer Cake. In 2024, he directed the spy thriller Argylle, starring Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard, and has two more films in development.
