'Shaheen Afridi Considered Himself Bigger Than Team India Coach Morne Morkel'

Following Team India’s 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test, Basit Ali came down hard at Pakistan’s fast bowlers for their poor mindset and mistreatment of the now Team India bowling coach Morne Morkel.

The former South Africa fast bowler had a brief stint with Pakistan which came to an end after their group-stage exit from the ODI World Cup 2024.

Ali claimed that the Pakistan bowlers, including the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf, considered themselves bigger than cricket and even thought that their skills were better than Morkel.

“The Pakistani bowlers consider themselves to be bigger than cricket. They thought that Morkel was nothing in front of us,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.

When Bangladesh toured Pakistan for the two-Test series, they clinched victory by 10 wickets in the first match and six-wicket in the second, to clean sweep the series.

Ali pointed out that although the opposition was the same for the arch-rivals; it showed the difference in their approach and mindset against them.

“We got to know the difference. This is the same Bangladesh played against Pakistan, where it seemed as if Pakistan were completely on the back foot. This is the same Bangladesh that whitewashed Pakistan. The difference is of mindset, thinking, and class,” he added.

Team India will host Bangladesh for the second and final Test in Kanpur, starting on Friday.
