Arrival of Al Nassr captain, Cristiano Ronaldo in Tehran has pulled in a large crowd of fans in the city. Videos of fans surrounding the team bus, chanting the name of Portuguese star and some performing his iconic move ‘siu’ was posted on the social media by Al Nassr. CR7, the football sensation, brings in the crowd wherever he goes and that’s what happened in Tehran too.
The 36-year-old gave thumps up to the fans for the warm welcome he received. Hundreds of soccer fans stormed into the hotel chanting ‘Ronaldo, Ronaldo’ filling the public spaces around Espians Palace Hotel hoping for a glimpse of the star player.
The Riyadh based club arrived in Tehran for the match against Iran’s Persepolis on Tuesday. The return game will be played in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 27.
This will be the first match for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to take part in AFC Champions League 2023-24.
The Asian Champions league came into reality after the restoration of diplomatic relation between Iran and Saudi Arabia earlier this year. The long-time rival severed their ties in 2016 after an angry crowd stormed Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran to protest Saudi Arabia’s execution of a popular Shiite cleric, as per SportStar.
2015 Asian Champions League was the last time they both played together. These two clubs have played against each other twice in their footballing history, with both sharing two wins. Football is a popular game in Iran and has always been a regular participant in FIFA World Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo was signed to play in the Saudi Arabian club, Al Nassr for $200 million per year deal.
