An Indian-origin doctor was shot and killed in the Alabama city of Tuscaloosa on Friday, August 23. An acclaimed physician named Dr Ramesh Babu Peramsetty, who used to operate several hospitals in America died on the spot.

Hailed from Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati district, Dr Peramsetty is known for his contributions in the field of healthcare. He was practiced as a physician in Tuscaloosa and was the founder and medical director of the Crimson Care Network, a group of local medical professionals.

In a Facebook post, the Crimson Care Network Team confirmed the death of the doctor and expressed remorse over his passing. “As many are aware at this moment, we have been informed of Dr. Ramesh Peramsetty’s passing. The Peramsetty family ask for us to give them privacy as they grieve his passing. They have received abundant out pouring of love and faith. We will continue to honor him as he would want us to do. Thank you for your understanding,” the post read.

“Our team is prepared to make more statements within the next few days,” said in another post.

Dr Ramesh Babu Peramsetty

Dr Perasmsetty graduated from Medical College of Wisconsin and Sri Venkateswara Medical College in 1986, according to his WebMD page. He possessed 38 years of experience. His specialisations were in Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine and was also affiliated with the Diploma in Child Health (DCH) Regional Medical Center. Besides Tuscaloosa, he worked in four other locations.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, he had provided extensive healthcare to the affected and for which received multiple awards. Dr Perasmsetty was also actively engaged in social work as well. He donated nearly $17k to Menakuru High School in Andhra Pradesh where he studied, as per reports.

A street in Tuscaloosa was named after him due to his significant contributions in the medical field, NDTV reported citing local reports.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters, all of whom are settled in the US.
