Melissa Barrera, Mexican actress known for her role in ‘Scream VII’ as Samantha Carpenter was expelled from the hit horror series for showing support for the Palestinian cause. The decision was taken by the production company Spyglass to terminate the actress from the seventh instalment of the franchise claiming that the Barrera’s post was found to be antisemitic in nature.

Melissa Barrera was reportedly to play the lead role in the upcoming project as well after serving as the lead role in the recent two ‘Scream’ movies. Commenting on the decision, the Spyglass said, “zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form”.

The actress posted on her Instagram account about the conflict, resharing a post that accuses Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing”.

The 33-year-old actress responded through her Instagram story against the expulsion and wrote, “First and foremost I condemn antisemitism and Islamophobia. I condemn hate and prejudice of any kind against any group of people. I believe a group of people are NOT their leadership, and that no governing body should be above criticism. I pray day and night for no more deaths, for no more violence, and for peaceful co-existence. I will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom,” reports news sky.

Scream VII director, Christopher Landon commented on his X handle on Barrera’s exit which was later deleted. He wrote, “Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make”.

Amidst the fallout, Wednesday starrer Jenna Ortega also announced her withdrawal from the project. But it was later revealed that the reason for her to drop the project is due to the clashing schedules with the hit comedy-horror series ‘Wednesday’.

Meanwhile, the Oscar winning actress Susan Sarandon has also been dropped from a Hollywood company over her Palestine stance. The Dead Man Walking actress was dropped by the United Talent Agency for her left-wing views as she made remarks at a Pro-Palestine rally in New York. She was criticized for her remark, she said that people who are “afraid of being Jewish at this time” are “getting a taste of what feels like to be Muslim in this country, so often objected to violence”.
