BJP Leader Intercepted With Rs Crore In Bengaluru, FIR Registered

The Static Surveillance Team (SST) team of Karnataka Chief Electoral Office intercepted a car carrying cash of 2 crore from a BJP leader in Chamrajpet, Bengaluru. The Chief Electoral Officer of the state said this happened at 4:05 PM on April 20 and they have intimated the same to the income tax officials.

The SST has obtained permission of court for filing an FIR at 11 AM today against Lokesh Ambekallu, Secretary, BJP State Office along with two others; Venkatesh Prasad and Gangadhar. The area comes under the Chamrajpet Assembly Constituency of the Bengaluru Central Parliamentary Constituency.

A release from the poll body said the documents have been investigated by Income Tax department by summoning office bearers of BJP and concluded that there was no violation under IT laws as the source of money was proper.

But as per ECI direction cash more than 10,000 given to party functionaries and candidates agents for political activities shall be done through cheque or online mode.

The statement added that the Election Commission of India (ECI) also advised political parties not to carry huge cash.

“As there is violation of ECI directions and the recipient’s list was not produced, based on the suspicion that money may be used for inducements in election an FIR u/s 123 of RP Act and 171(B)(C)(E)(F) of IPC related to bribery and undue influence is registered. Permission of court is obtained for booking FIR at 11 am, on 21.04.24, against Lokesh Ambekallu, Secretary, BJP State Office, Venkatesh Prasad and Gangadhar by the SST of 168-Chamrajpet Assembly Constituency of the Bengaluru Central Parliamentary Constituency at Cottonpet,” the statement said.
