PM Modi’s Rajasthan Speech: EC On Spotlight As Oppostion Demands Action

Edited by Hiba Anvar

The Congress on Sunday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his speech at Rajasthan rally. Terming the remark of the BJP star campaigner as “hate speech”, the grand old party has said that it was “a well-thought-out ploy” to divert people’s attention.

Modi on Sunday said that the Congress if comes into power could distribute the nation’s wealth among “infiltrators” and “those who have more children”, misquoting a statement said by former prime minister Manmohan Singh regarding the minority community’s access to the country’s resources.

The Congress party has claimed that the remark has come after facing disappointment in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls. They further alleged that PM Modi has now resorted to “lies” and “hate speech” to divert people from the real issues.

“What Modiji said was hate speech and also a well thought-out ploy to divert attention. Today, the Prime Minister did what he has learnt from the values of the Sangh,” Kharge said in a post on X.

The Congress President has further alleged that lying for power and making baseless allegations about opponents were the values of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-Bharatiya Janata Party combine that Mr Modi has imbibed.

Kharge added that in the history of India, no prime minister has lowered the dignity of his post as much as Modi.

Several opposition leaders including Asaduddin Owaisi have hit back at Modi against his remark. Reacting to Modi’s comment, Owaisi wrote on X, “Modi today called Muslims infiltrators and people with many children. Since 2002 till this day, the only Modi guarantee has been to abuse Muslims and get votes. If one is talking about the country’s wealth, one should know that under Modi’s rule the first right to India’s wealth has been of his wealthy friends. 1% of Indians own 40% of the country’s wealth. Common Hindus are made to fear Muslims while their wealth is being used to enrich others.”

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MP Saket Gokhale has urged the people to use their power and lodge complaints against the prime minister for the hate speech. “Election Commission ignores the Opposition & has kept giving a free pass to Modi and the BJP. During elections, EC is not accountable to political parties. BUT – they’re accountable to the people of India. This is the email address of the Chief Election Commissioner: cec@eci.gov.in,” Saket Gokhale wrote on X.
