“Smriti Irani Not Going To Lok Sabha, But KL Sharma Is…”: Sanjay Raut’s Verdict On Amethi

Edited by Hiba Anvar

Shiv Sena(UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said on Friday commenting on a non-Gandhi family member fielded in the Amethi Lok Sabha seat that BJP candidate and Union minister Smriti Irani will not go to Lok Sabha but the now fielded Congress candidate will.

While speaking to the news agency ANI, Sanjay Raut said that Rahul Gandhi is not the kind of person who would get scared and he is contesting in Wayanad, the Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala. “We all had that wish that someone from the Gandhi family should fight from Uttar Pradesh whether it’s Amethi or Raebareli,” he added.

Welcoming Sonia Gandhi’s decision to field Rahul Gandhi in Rae Bareli, the Shiv Sena leader reminded that since the period of Indira Gandhi, the Nehruvian family has represented Rae Bareli. With utmost assurance to win the Amethi seat, Sanjay Raut claimed, “Anyone can win Amethi, KL Sharma is part of the Gandhi family member. This time Smriti Irani is not going to Lok Sabha, but KL Sharma is…”

The Congress party has fielded Kishore Lal Sharma, a long-time loyalist of the Nehru family, from Amethi, the seat in Uttar Pradesh. The bastion of the Congress party was lost to Smrithi Irani in 2019. Rahul Gandhi has won the seat since 2004 when Sonia Gandhi shifted to Rae Bareli. Meanwhile, the scion of the Gandhi family will contest the election from the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat.

The Congress has broken its norms after two decades by fielding a candidate from outside the Gandhi family to contest in the prestigious Amethi Lok Sabha seat. KL Sharma is a trusted aid of Sonia Gandhi, the former Congress president and he has served as her representative during her tenure as the member of Parliament from Rae Bareli.
