Tata Nexon CNG Launched At Rs 8.99 Lakh With Twin-Cylinder Tech

Tata Motors has launched the Nexon CNG with prices starting at Rs 8.99 lakh. This marks another industry-first for the brand: a turbocharged CNG model. The CNG-powered Nexon is available in eight variants, with the top-spec Fearless + PS manual variant costing Rs 14.59 lakh. Like the rest of Tata Motors’ CNG portfolio, the Nexon iCNG gets the brand’s dual-cylinder CNG kit.

The petrol Nexon,  is priced from Rs 7.99 lakh. The prices for the CNG versions start Rs 1 lakh higher. The Nexon CNG comes in Smart, Smart +, Smart + S, Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative + and Fearless + PS variants. The range-topping variant gets features such as a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, four speakers and tweeters, and leatherette upholstery.

Safety kit like six airbags and ESP are standard on all variants, with the top-spec variant getting auto headlight and wipers, a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitor, front parking sensors, an auto-dimming IRVM, and more.

The Nexon CNG will come equipped with a twin-cylinder setup that keeps the boot space at a practical 230 litres. Powered by a recalibrated 1.2L turbo petrol engine, the Nexon CNG will offer a balance of power and enhanced fuel efficiency, with options for both a five-speed manual and automated manual transmission.

Expected to be priced ₹70,000 to ₹80,000 higher than the standard variants, the Nexon CNG will compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG. Tata Motors has ensured that the CNG system is integrated seamlessly, with safety and performance features like a micro switch, single ECU unit, and a robust six-point cylinder mounting setup.

The Nexon CNG is part of Tata’s broader strategy to offer a range of fuel-efficient and eco-friendly options, further solidifying its position in the Indian automotive market.The Tata Nexon CNG is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine that makes 100hp and 170Nm – 20hp down than the petrol model, while the torque figure is the same. It has an ARAI-rated efficiency figure of 24km/kg and a 60-litre CNG tank. The Nexon iCNG comes only with a manual gearbox, but, like the Tiago and Tigor CNG, it could get an AMT variant later.

Tata is proud of its dual-cylinder technology, the Nexon iCNG boasts of a 321-litre boot, which is 61 litres down on the petrol and diesel versions. The Nexon CNG rivals the Maruti Fronx), Toyota Taisor CNG and the Maruti Brezza CNG.
