Tesla Seeks Homologation For Model S, Model Y In India
Only in the past few months has the continuous discussion about Tesla‘s potential entry into the Indian electric vehicle (EV) market accelerated. There is a fresh revelation every other day that keeps industry insiders interested and curious about whether the American EV behemoth would target India.
According to recent reports, Tesla has applied for the homologation of two EVs in India, suggesting that it would soon be available. The Elon Musk-led business has applied for Model S and Model Y homologation. Tesla had already submitted an application to get its cars homologated in India.
Tesla has previously applied for seven Indian homologation applications, all of which were for test vehicles. Recently, an eighth application was accepted. The certification procedure known as homologation guarantees that a car is safe to drive and meets the requirements specified for all cars made in or brought into India. In accordance with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, this procedure involves testing to confirm that the car satisfies Indian market standards for safety, emissions, and general roadworthiness.

Musk presently prioritizes exporting Tesla automobiles to India without making any imminent plans for local manufacture, despite the Indian government’s desire for Musk to set up a manufacturing plant for Tesla there.
