Budget 2025: Jairam Ramesh Slams FM For Not Extending Nutritional Program In Poshan 2.0

During the Budget 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman declared that the cost norms for nutritional support programs like Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 will be enhanced. During the budget presentation, the finance minister stressed the significance of these projects to support over 8 crore children and 1 crore pregnant and lactating women.

Reacting to the revision in the program, Congress General Secretary in charge of communication Jairam Ramesh pointed out that after many years of turning down the demand, the government has announced the revision of cost norms in Saksham Anganawadi.

Notably, the Congress MP questioned the finance minister for not extending the announcement to programs, such as the inclusion of breakfast in schools, the provision of a glass of milk, which is being implemented in Karnataka through the Ksheera Bhagya Scheme, and the upward revision in honorarium given to Anganwadi workers.

“The Union Education and WCD Ministries themselves have been pushing for these proposals for years, only to be turned down by the Finance Ministry,” the Congress leader wrote on his X handle, wondering what kind of investment in people the Finance Minister is envisioning without these basic provisions.
