As Shah Rukh Khan’s comedy drama Dunki is set to hit theaters this week along with Prabhas” Salaar, the theater complexes across the country are expected to be a battleground with the pioneers vying to achieve higher box office collections for their movies. In terms of initial collection, Shah Rukh Khan has a clear edge over his competitors, as per the gauges. Here follows King Khan’s spectacular box office triumph.
1. Baazigar (1993): Baazigar was released on the same day as Bedardi, starring Urmila Matondkar and Ajay Devgn, hit theaters. Baazigar collected Rs. 9 crore, while Bedardi failed to impress the large audience. Baaziger, directed by Abbas Mustan, is considered the breakthrough in King Khan”s career.
2. Ram Jaane (1995): Rajiv Mehra’s action movie Ram Jaane was released along with Aamir Khan”s Akele Hum Akele Tum. Ram Jaane collected Rs. 6.70 crore, while Akele Hum Akele Tum managed to gather Rs. 0.50 crore.
3. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995): One of the super hit movies of all time, Dilwaae Dulhania Le Jayenge, amassed Rs. 53 crore in box office, while its rival movie Madhuri Dixit and Rishi Kapoor’s Yaraana were able to compile only Rs. 5 crore.
4. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998): The Karan Johar-Shah Rukh Khan team made magic on and off screen with their drama Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which collected Rs.42 crore at the box office. David Dhawan’s comedy Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which starred Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan, was able to collect roughly Rs 6 crore.
5. Mohabbatein (2000): King Khan”s multi-starrer Mohabbatein competed with Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s action drama, Mission Kashmir, starring Sanjay Dutt, Hrithik Roshan, and Preity Zinta, with the former collecting Rs 41 crore while the latter brought in Rs 22 crore.
6. Veer Zaara (2004): Abbas Mastan directed Aitraaz, starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Priyanka Chopra, which collected Rs19 crore at the box office, while Yash Chopra’s love drama featuring Khan together with Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji was able to gather only Rs7 crore.
7. Don (2006): Don was the remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan classic. When King Khan reincarnated as the Don, it became an instant hit, amassing Rs. 24 crore at the box office, while Salman’s romance flick Jaan-E-Mann, which costarred Preity Zinta and Akshay Kumar, made over Rs 12 crore.
8. Om Shanti Om (2007): Om Shanti Om, a suspense mystery thriller that marked the debut of actor Deepika Padukone along with Khan, made Rs. 70 crore at the box office. However, the Saawariya, which featured star kid Ranbir Kapoor, managed to collect Rs 24 crore.
9. Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012): Directed by Yash Chopra, Jab Tak Hai Jaan hit theaters with Son of Sardaar, starring Ajay Devgn. Both movies became super hits, with the Devgn comedy collecting Rs 105 crore, while the Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Ja Tak Hai Jaan made over Rs 120 crore.
10. Dilwale (2015): Dilwale, a multi-starrer movie with King Khan in the lead role, confronted Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s war epic Bajirao Mastani. Dilwale piled up Rs. 148 crore, while Bajirao Mastani amassed Rs. 184 crore.
