New Delhi: In her Budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a major overhaul in farmers’ loan limits, other than delivering key promises to the agriculture sector. Speaking in the Parliament, the finance minister said that the short-term loan limit to farmers will be increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC).
Highlighting the Budget’s focus on agriculture, the minister stated the government would bring a framework for harnessing fisheries from Indian exclusive economic zones and high seas with a special focus on Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep islands.

The minister also noted that the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana will boost irrigation, covering over 100 districts, and the program is expected to benefit around 1.7 crore farmers in building rural prosperity, which will be launched in partnership with states.

Stressing self-reliance in pulses and the importance of creating a healthier India, the minister said the government will launch a 6-year mission to improve this sector, and the board will focus on tur, masoor, and urad dal. The minister added that a National Mission on high-yielding seeds will be launched.
