“In Public Interest”: Centre Allows Petroleum Import Via Adani-Run Krishnapatnam Port

The Central Government has authorised the import of petroleum through the Adani-operated Krishnapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh, extending its operational approval until 1 March 2026. The announcement, made via a notification from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways on 6 December 2024, cited public interest as the reason for the decision.

According to the notification, the move continues permissions initially granted in August 2021 under Rule 16(1) of the Petroleum Rules, 2002. The port’s compliance with the Navigational Safety at Ports Committee (NSPC) certification ensures adherence to safety standards for petroleum imports.
