In a letter to shareholders, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal explained the reason behind the name change. He stated that the company started using the name “Eternal” internally after acquiring Blinkit, a quick commerce platform. Goyal said that the name “Eternal” reflects the company’s mission to build a lasting legacy.
In the letter, he describes Zomato as “an accidental company” that grew out of a desire to serve. Over time, it became a business, creating millions of direct and indirect jobs.
So, what does “Eternal” mean?
Goyal says it’s a powerful name that reminds them to stay humble and keep working hard. “True permanence isn’t built on bold claims of success. It’s forged in the quiet understanding that our immortality stems from our mortality,” Goyal said.
“Working at Eternal means waking up every day knowing that their success is earned through hard work, self-doubt, and constantly trying to be better,” he added.

“The name change is not just about the company’s name; it’s a mission statement,” Goyal stated. Zomato’s website will change and their stock ticker will change to Eternal.
However, many users were confused about whether the name change would affect the Zomato food delivery platform.
To clarify, Zomato issued a statement on social media, assuring users that the name change only applies to the parent company and not the food delivery app.
