Rs 100 For Water Bottle Worth Rs 10 At Concert Venue: Organisers, Zomato Draw Flak

Bengaluru: Highlighting the exploitation at program venues in India, an X user recently shared a small water bottle charged with Rs 100 by Zomato at an event venue in Bengaluru. Leaving people in a helpless state that they cannot carry water bottles and other essential items in venues such as concerts and sports events, the visitors are forced to pay hefty amount the seller demands, most of the time exceeding far beyond the reasonable limits.

In an X post, Pallab De pointed out one such situation, claiming that Zomato sold a Rs 10 water bottle for Rs 100 at a concert venue in Bengaluru. While sharing a normal water bottle with an unreadable price sign, the user asked, “How is @zomato allowed to sell Rs. 10 water bottles for Rs. 100 at concert venues where no one is allowed to bring their own bottles?”

The post of the user has gone viral on social media, reflecting the broader frustration of the audience of similar events. Most of the organizers of events overcharge for basic items such as water, food, and even parking on such occasions, many times leaving the visitors in disillusion.

However, the Indian multinational restaurant aggregator has responded, saying that they were not the event organizers but the ticketing partner. “We’re sorry for your experience. While we weren’t the event organizers but the ticketing partner, we’ve noted your feedback and will ensure it helps us improve our own events moving forward,” the food delivery company wrote in an X post.

Notably, the X user who flagged the issue, in a follow-up post, held the organizers responsible for the overprice and tagged the event organizers, stating that they felt they could sell Rs. 10 bottles for Rs. 100.

Netizens have expressed support for the X user who flagged the widespread concern regarding the overpricing system in program venues in India, with many calling the practice an overnight theft.
