AICTE Issues Revised Schedule For 2024-25 Academic Calender

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has issued a revised schedule for its 2024-25 academic calendar on its website. The notification on the website said that the deadline for first-year admission to technical institutions has been extended to October 23.

The decision came after the Supreme Court’s order to allow the extension of the admission deadline for technical institutions to October 23, 2024. Earlier, the admission deadline was September 15. However, the extension is not valid for standalone institutions offering Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) programs. Such institutions are required to adhere to their original admission timeframes.

AICTE also revised the last date under the lateral admissions for the second year students in technical institutions to October 23. As per the AICTE revised calender, the classes for first year students of technical courses will start on October 23.

Also, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has notified to all central, state and private institutions to no longer take approval from the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to offer undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programs.

“The Commission considered the communication received from AICTE stating that as per Hon’ble Supreme Court Judgement in Bharathidasan University and Another Vs. All India Council for Technical Education and Others (2001) 8 SCC 676, it is not mandatory for the State/Private Universities to take AICTE approval to run Technical programmes”.
