The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) achieved a significant milestone today as it conferred over 300,000 degrees, diplomas, and certificates at its 37th Convocation held at the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Convention Centre at the open university’s Maidan Garhi Campus in Delhi. The Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar graced the occasion as the chief guest, delivering an address to the gathered students.

In his convocation speech, the Vice President extended heartfelt congratulations to students nationwide, recognizing their relentless efforts and unwavering dedication. He appreciated the pivotal role played by IGNOU in cultivating well-rounded individuals and commended the institution for its steadfast commitment to fostering equity, inclusivity, and excellence in higher education, in alignment with the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.

During the ceremony, a remarkable 3.08 Lakh degrees/diplomas/certificates were conferred, with meritorious students being honored by the Vice President.

Highlighting the power of IGNOU”s 7.5 million-strong alumni network, the Vice President emphasized its potential as a catalyst for national progress, particularly in the context of India”s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, the “Amrit kaal”.

The Vice President urged graduates to embrace their uniqueness, to challenge the status quo, and to fearlessly pursue their dreams, acknowledging their role as architects of India”s future, shaping the nation”s destiny with purpose and passion.

Prof. Nageshwar Rao, VC IGNOU apprising the Vice President said, “I am pleased to share that IGNOU has embarked on numerous initiatives over the past year. We have been steadfastly advancing towards the vision outlined in the National Education Policy 2020, particularly in embracing Multidisciplinary and Holistic Education.”

“Our commitment extends to various domains such as Vocational and Skill-based Education, Research & Innovation, Promotion of Indian Languages, and ICT-enabled education. It brings me great pride to highlight the tangible impact of our efforts, notably in reaching the remotest corners of our nation and catering to disadvantaged groups. IGNOU has been unwavering in its mission to provide Access to higher education, thereby fostering Equity in our society through Inclusion. These endeavors underscore our dedication to realizing the transformative goals set forth in the National Education Policy 2020,” he added.

The Convocation ceremony, held simultaneously at IGNOU”s Regional Centers nationwide, was broadcasted live on various platforms, including 6 Swayam Prabha Channels managed by IGNOU, GyanDarshan Channel, GyanVani, YouTube, and social media channels, reflecting the university”s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.
