IGNOU Launches Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP)

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), country’s largest open university, has introduced its four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP). The open university has come up with the FYUP during the inauguration session of the 2-Day National Seminar on “G20 Presidency and India’s Global Leadership Role.”

The programme was launched by Prof M Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman UGC, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) recommendations, a statement from the university which is headquartered at New Delhi said.

This transformative step, the university claimed that, signifies IGNOU’s commitment to revolutionizing Indian higher education, offering students a comprehensive and flexible learning experience in various disciplines.

It also said in the statement that the FYUP opens doors for students nationwide, fostering diverse educational opportunities in line with the university’s visionary approach.

“The four-year undergraduate programme is considered a crucial reform in Indian higher education, providing students nationwide with diverse opportunities for enrollment. Whether pursuing these courses as part of a regular program or opting for a simultaneous UG degree in a different discipline, IGNOU’s FYUP offers a myriad of possibilities for students,” the statement said.

The programmes launched include; Bachelor of Commerce  (BCOMF), Bachelor of Arts (Economics), Bachelor of Arts (History), Bachelor of Arts (Political Science), Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), Bachelor of Arts (Public Administration), Bachelor of Arts (Sociology), Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology), Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry), Bachelor of Arts (English), Bachelor of Arts (Hindi), Bachelor of Arts (Sanskrit), Bachelor of Arts (Urdu), Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Arts (Facilities and Service Management), Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy), Bachelor of Arts ( Journalism and Digital Media).

Mr. Amitabh Kant, G-20 Sherpa and former CEO of Niti Aayog, was the key-note speaker at the seminar’s inauguration session, accentuating India’s pivotal position within the G20.

Professor Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, presided over the inauguration session, shedding light on the university’s initiatives aligned with the NEP 2020 recommendations. The launch of FYUP reflects IGNOU’s commitment to providing quality education in line with national educational reforms, he added.
