T20 World Cup Final: India Crush New Zealand By 96 Runs, Sanju Samson Shines
The India national cricket team defeated the New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Batting first, India posted a massive total of 255 for 5 in 20 overs, the highest score ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final.
First team to win the T20 World Cup three times, and the first to claim the trophy on home soil.
The innings was led by a brilliant knock from Sanju Samson, who scored 89 runs and set the record for the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final.
India got a flying start as Abhishek Sharma smashed a quick 52 off just 21 balls, including the fastest half-century of the tournament in 18 deliveries. Ishan Kishan also played an explosive innings, scoring 54 runs from 25 balls to push India past the 200-run mark quickly.
Later in the innings, Shivam Dube provided a late boost with a quick cameo that helped India reach 255 in their 20 overs.
Chasing the huge target, New Zealand struggled to build partnerships against India’s disciplined bowling attack. Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling effort with an impressive spell, taking 4 wickets for 15 runs.
New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 159 runs, falling well short of the target as India sealed a comfortable 96-run victory.
